The offices of Hancock County Savings Bank will be closed on Monday, February 15th, 2021 in observance of Presidents Day.
Presidents Day was originally held on the birthday of our nation’s first president, George Washington, which is February 22nd. In 1971 the date of this holiday became the third Monday in February.
Washington also shared his birth month with President Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday was February 12th, 1809. As 16th President of the United States, Lincoln was responsible for many great successes, including the emancipation of the slaves.
With these prominent presidents both celebrating birthdays in February, it seemed only logical to designate a holiday during this month in honor of our nation’s leaders. Presidents Day is not only in memory and celebration of President Washington and Lincoln, but it is a day to honor all of our founding fathers and past leaders who have served as Commander and Chief. Without them America would not be the land of opportunity that it has become.
