Keeping it Simple for Valentine’s Day

Love is in the air as Valentine’s Day is drawing near. While some claim the holiday was created by the greeting card companies, it is still nice to make the effort to spend time with your special someone and let them know they are appreciated.

Going all out with lavish gifts and getaways can be tempting, but keeping it budget friendly on February 14th tends to be what many are really looking to do.

Here are a few tips for enjoying the day without breaking the bank!

  • Go out earlier to a restaurant for lunch or brunch. By dining early you avoid the crowds and can take advantage of lunch specials that are available. Ordering only dessert or an appetizer with drinks is another option. These ideas will also guarantee a smaller bill while still getting to enjoy the atmosphere of dining out.

  • Stay in and watch a movie or cook a meal together. Spending time together at home is just as nice as going out and much easier on the wallet.

  • Go on a shopping date. Going someplace as simple as the grocery store still guarantees time together, or bundle up and take a walk at the park. It’s not how expensive the activities are but who you’re with that matters.

  • Make a gift instead of buying one. Homemade gifts come from the heart and mean much more than an expensive piece of jewelry or large bouquet of flowers, which will just wither away.

Whatever you may choose to do this Valentine’s Day, simply letting those you love know that you are thinking of them will be the best gift you can give.
