Hurricane Florence being called “The Storm of a Lifetime”
We are hoping for the best for our friends down south as Hurricane Florence pounds the southeast. Towns as far west as Raleigh, North Carolina have been evacuated. The opening act of this storm has already hit the Outer Banks, moving slowly at about 3-4 mph. Florence is expected to leave an estimated 40+ inches of rain behind, with winds around 74 mph. At the center of the storm, storm surges are expected between 9-13 feet, which experts describe as catastrophic. They say that rain fall will be packing a punch with tropical storm-strength winds continuing through late Saturday. Experts say between the winds, rainfall amounts and storm surge, leaving the area is the only safe option. We here at Hancock County Savings Bank have friends and family who live in that area. We send our prayers and our best to them during this time.
