Each May, our Nation salutes the American women and men who put their lives on the line every day to maintain public safety and hold accountable those who break the law.
May 15th has been named Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls has been designated as Police Week. During this week we recognize all those who have dedicated their lives to the vital task of protecting their communities. We pause to remember those who have lost their lives and who have suffered permanent disabilities while defending these communities and the rule of law, including the heroes we have lost this year to the coronavirus.
On May 15th each year, flags are also flown at half-staff throughout the country in honor of the lives lost.
