Fighting Fraud, One Community at a Time

The Hancock County Savings Bank anti-fraud/anti-scam team made a stop at the beautiful Prime Time Office on Aging in Steubenville on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.  This was our largest crowd yet and our team was excited by the overwhelming response.  The goal for our presenters is to give seniors as much information as possible so they can protect themselves against scammers.  Bank representatives stressed that our older population is a target because they have accumulated savings and are typically trusting and helpful.  Our professionals discussed, to at least 100 people, the various ways fraudsters target people online through things like romance scams, email fraud, fake malware warnings and click-bait scams.  Believe it or not, there are still folks out there emailing and even calling people claiming a loved one has been arrested, demanding they wire thousands of dollars to an account immediately to get the relative out of jail.  Our security experts stressed that fraud comes in all shapes and sizes and our best advice is to give your bank a call and ask questions before you make any moves.  Do not give out your personal information, social security number, credit/debit card or bank account numbers!  HCSBank takes great pride in our accessibility to the community. Call us.  We are here to help you!  We would like to thank the kind hosts at Prime Time for having us in your beautiful facility.  We look forward to our next visit.  Below are some photos from this great event.
