The Easter holiday is the perfect time to prepare desserts incorporating the fresh flavors and colors of spring. If you find yourself with some extra time this weekend, one of the following recipes, courtesy of Taste of Home, might make a nice addition to your Easter brunch, lunch or dinner.
Hot cross buns are a classic Easter treat that are traditionally enjoyed on Good Friday and mark the end of Lent. They are a sweet spiced bun baked with raisins or currants and marked with a cross on top.
Easter bread is another baked good that is enjoyed by many, especially those of Greek and Italian descent, during the holy holiday. This braided bread is baked with hardboiled eggs, shell still on, placed on top. The eggs can be dyed and sprinkles can be added too for an extra boost of color.
Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting is another common dessert often baked for the holiday. Carrots are associated with spring and rabbits and make for a nice element in a variety of dishes. Carrot cake also works great as cupcakes.
Lastly, lemon squares are another idea for your Easter meal. They are a simple treat with a big zesty flavor and the bright yellow color is sure to brighten up the table.
